FIJI ISLANDS – Australia may have won The Ashes, but the cricket season’s main event, the Castaway Island, Fiji Australia Day Beach Cricket Match, remains to be played.

Managed by Outrigger Resorts, Castaway Island, Fiji is a pristine, private island resort located in the heart of Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands group, its 70 hectares (173 acres) covered in tropical rainforest and fringed by white sand beaches and vibrant coral reefs.

Jan. 26, 2018, will be the 230th anniversary of Australia Day and Castaway Island will celebrate with a program of sport, games and Aussie cuisine.

The day begins with free snorkeling lessons for kids followed by the resort’s answer to the Australian Open tennis competition.

Family beach games culminate in a tug-o-war while chefs prepare an Aussie-style barbecue lunch.

The Australia Day Beach Cricket Match will be played mid-afternoon and will be keenly contested with hosts and guests vying for the honors.

Dinner will feature an Australia Day Chef’s Special with a la carte dining at the Water’s Edge or 1808 restaurants also available.

A bonfire and trivia contest on the beach concludes the day’s activities.

Castaway Island guests will also experience a Fijian cultural program during their stay as part of Outrigger Resorts Signature Experiences, a collection of complimentary experiences unique to the destination that provides an understanding and connection with the people and place.

Australia Day is just one of many idyllic family experiences to be offered as part of Castaway Island’s annual events calendar.
