BEL OMBRE, MAURITIUS – In order for guests to enjoy an authentic Mauritian experience during their stay, the Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort has introduced Mauritian food, drink and dance nights on Wednesdays.

Guests should head to Willie’s Rum & Crab Shack (no floor, just sand between the toes) in the Outrigger to enjoy fresh seafood from the south of the island and great local Creole dishes accompanied by Mauritian Sega dancing and music.

Mauritian dining is a wonderful potpourri of flavors drawing on abundant local ingredients blended together by Arabic, Indian, African, Asian and French influences.

There are street delights, barbecue dishes, a hawker’s corner and big barbecue flavors to tempt Outrigger guests.

Discover marlin steaks, calamari, red snapper, swordfish, local Chamarel venison, hot pot chicken bouillon with dim sum and chilies, chana puri with mustard chutney, seafood accra with tartar sauce, smothered baby clams, and lamb and jackfruit curry, to name a few.

And did we mention sea urchin among the local starter dishes?

“The food and music are exotic, the setting by the beach is perfect,” says Pieter van der Hoeven, general manager at the Outrigger. “This is how guests can experience the essence of Mauritius in one evening.”

Mauritian night at Willie’s Rum & Crab Shack is MUR 2,900 (US$78) net per person (MUR 1,800 for guests in half-board, full board and all inclusive) and MUR 1,080 (US$29) for children 10-17 years old.
