Throughout the festival, hundreds of amateur and professional athletes gather to compete in a variety of ocean sports that were close to the Hawaiian waterman’s heart, including: surfing, stand-up paddling, a one-mile ocean swim, lifeguard competition, surfboard water polo, a wounded-warrior canoe regatta, paddle boarding, beach volleyball and more. In addition to the festivities and competitions, Duke’s OceanFest is a benefit for the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation’s (ODKF) college scholarship and athletic program, which supports Hawaii scholar-athletes competing in water sports and volleyball.
