This summer, Duke’s OceanFest – Waikiki’s premier ocean sports festival and celebration to honor the iconic waterman Duke Paoa Kahanamoku – brings nine days of beachside activities to water enthusiasts from Aug. 19 to 27. Sixteen years running, Duke’s OceanFest takes place the week of Duke Kahanamoku’s birthday – he would have been 127 years old this year. Throughout the festival, hundreds of amateur and professional athletes gather to compete in a variety of ocean sports that were close to the Hawaiian waterman’s heart, including: surfing, stand-up paddling, a one-mile ocean swim, lifeguard competition, surfboard water polo, a wounded-warrior canoe regatta, paddle boarding, beach volleyball and more. In addition to the festivities and competitions, Duke’s OceanFest is a benefit for the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation’s (ODKF) college scholarship and athletic program, which supports Hawaii scholar-athletes competing in water sports and volleyball.

Outrigger Resorts Legends Surf Classic
As the official hotel sponsor of Duke’s OceanFest 2017, Outrigger is honored to lend its name to the Outrigger Resorts Legends Surf Classic taking place on Friday, Aug. 25 and Saturday, Aug. 26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Queen’s Surf on Kuhio Beach.

Additionally, the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Junior Beach Volleyball Tournament will take place on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Adult Beach Volleyball Tournament on Sunday, Aug. 27 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kapiolani – Queens Sand Volleyball Courts.
