WAIKIKI, OAHU, HAWAII – The 12th annual Duke’s OceanFest, with ocean and beachside activities held at various venues throughout Waikiki, takes place this year from August 17-25. Outrigger Hotels and Resorts is once again proud to lend its support to this time-honored celebration that commemorates the legendary waterman, Olympic champion and Hawaiian son, Duke Paoa Kahanamoku. Outrigger is offering participants and spectators in town for the fun a special $139 nightly rate at two of its OHANA hotels in Waikiki – the OHANA Waikiki East and OHANA Waikiki West hotels.
“Outrigger has been a part of Duke’s OceanFest since it first began,” said Dr. Chuck Kelley, chairman of the board for Outrigger Enterprises Group. “Over the years, the festival has grown to become Waikiki’s premier ocean sports festival, capturing the fun and spirit of Waikiki Beach and celebrating the life and legacy of Duke Kahanamoku, who I’m proud to say was a personal friend of my grandparents and Outrigger founders, Roy and Estelle Kelley.”
For nine days in August, hundreds of athletes – both professional and amateur – will take part in a variety of competitions, including longboard surfing, paddleboard races, swimming, tandem surfing, surf polo, beach volleyball, stand-up paddling, and more. The Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Waikiki Sand Soccer Championships will be held on Saturday, August 17, and Sunday, August 18. The festivities will also include a Sunrise Birthday Lei Draping ceremony at the Duke Kahanamoku statue in Waikiki, which is free and open to the public, on August 24, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
To commemorate this celebration, Outrigger Hotels and Resorts is offering a special rate of $139 per night (plus tax), at two of its OHANA Hotels and Resorts locations in Waikiki – the OHANA Waikiki West and OHANA Waikiki East hotels. To take advantage of this limited-time offer, interested parties must log on at http://tinyurl.com/DukesOceanFest13.
