RELEASE NUMBER 112/16
KAPALUA, MAUI, HAWAII – Outrigger Resorts, a longtime supporter of local sporting events, is proud to be the official hotel sponsor the 2016 XTERRA Off-Road Triathlon World Championship in Kapalua, Maui on October 23, 2016. Eight hundred athletes from 28 countries and 42 states in the U.S. will race for the title of XTERRA World Champion.
“The XTERRA Off-Road Triathlon World Championship is always one of the most thrilling sporting events of the year and we’re fired up to be part of the action in Maui on Oct. 23 as well as the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship at Oahu’s Kualoa Ranch on Dec. 4,” said Bitsy Kelley, vice president of corporate relations at Outrigger Enterprises Group.
As the world’s premier off-road triathlon, XTERRA combines a 1-mile rough water swim, a 20-mile mountain bike ride, and a 6.5-mile trail run through Kapalua’s tropical rain forests, warm ocean water and Maui Land and Pineapple Company’s private 22,000-acre pineapple field. This championship is the culminating event of a series of nearly 100 off-road triathlon races held in 16 countries and over 30 states in the U.S.
Outrigger Resorts will also sponsor the “Outrigger Resorts Double” award. This award is given to the pro and amateur man and woman with the fastest combined 2016 XTERRA World Championship and Ironman Hawaii Championship time, a feat reserved for the world’s leading endurance athletes.
Outrigger’s partnership with XTERRA extends throughout the entire season of the global off-road triathlon and trail running series and includes the sponsorship of the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship on December 4, 2016. Unlike the XTERRA Off-Road Triathlon World Championship in Maui, the trail running event is open to all without a qualifier race and will take runners and adventure walkers of all ages along the rugged trails of Kualoa Ranch on Oahu.
XTERRA competitions offer athletes an opportunity to participate in exhilarating off-road races in some of the most stunning and challenging natural environments around the world.
