TWEED HEADS NSW AND COOLANGATTA QLD, AUSTRALIA –The hypnotic sounds of the rolling surf on Coolangatta’s Greenmount Beach will play second fiddle for three glorious evenings under the stars in May, when Opera Australia presents Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the inaugural Opera on the Beach.
The set will be reminiscent of a giant sandcastle dominating Greenmount Beach, starring acclaimed principal performers Milica Ilic (Queen of the Night); Conal Coad as the sorcerer Sarastro, and Jonathan Abernethy playing the handsome young prince, Tamino.
Directed by Opera Australia’s Michael Gow, The Magic Flute will be adapted for Australian audiences with songs performed in English. The grand-scale production’s principal stars will be joined by a live orchestra and a homegrown chorus drawn from local community choirs and surf lifesaving clubs; and supported by lavish costumes and stunning light and sound shows more dazzling than the Surfers Paradise skyline in the distance.
One block from this world premier outdoor spectacular is Outrigger Twin Towns Resort, which is offering special overnight accommodation, B Reserve seating tickets to The Magic Flute and full buffet breakfasts for just $247 per night for two.
