CORAL COAST, FIJI  – The children of Nadroga Navosa affected by Cyclone Winston and those attending Sigatoka Special School are the focus of an Outrigger Walk For Kids Walkathon to be held on Saturday April 30.

Spearheaded by the resort’s sales and marketing and reservations departments, every dollar raised by those taking part in the 10.5km walk from Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort to the Sigatoka Special School will go toward building a trade training workshop at the school and helping children whose lives have been affected by the cyclone.

Resort General Manager Peter Hopgood said that the training workshop and the tools which will be provided to special needs children will allow them to learn trade skills that one day would assist them in finding employment.

“It is also a day dedicated to fostering a greater sense of partnership within the Sigatoka community and promoting the virtues of a healthy lifestyle,” he said

“If enough people sponsor me, I will personally walk, not only from the resort to the school, but back to the resort, a distance of 21.5km,” he added.

The chief guest and celebrity walker at the event will be the Assistant Minister for Sports, the Honorable IIiesa Delana.

The day commences at 6:45 a.m. with a briefing and warm-up at the resort lobby and an official 7 a.m. start time.

The course will proceed from the Outrigger resort through Sunset Strip, Korotogo along the Queen’s Highway across the Melrose Bridge, past Sigatoka Town before arriving at Sigatoka Special School.

All participants will be treated to refreshments and entertainment upon completion of the course.

Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort has already raised over FJD$7,500 (USD$3,200) to help cyclone victims and Outrigger Enterprises Group has donated a further FJD$20,000 (USD$8500) to the Fijian government’s cyclone relief appeal.
