Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa Announces Leadership Team

Outrigger Hospitality Group today announced two management appointments at the Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa – the 22-acre oceanfront property on Hawai‘i Island that is slated to re-open under the Outrigger brand in late August. Seasoned hospitality executive, Steve Solberg will be the resort’s general manager and Christine San Nicolas, who has been with Outrigger for more than two decades, will be director of human resources.

STEVE SOLBERG will be responsible for all aspects of resort operations for this culturally rich property, with an eye to service culture, maximized operations, host and guest satisfaction as well as the bottom line.

He was general manager (GM) at Outrigger Guam Beach Resort for nearly six years and before Guam lived in Missouri where he was GM of the Renaissance Grand St. Louis. Prior to that, he spent seven years with PCH Hotels and Resorts, the leading management company for full-service Marriott hotel products, as chief executive officer. Steve has also been GM and chief operating officer at Grand Marriott Resort, Golf Club and Spa in Point Clear, Alabama, and GM at the Embassy Suites Hotel in New York City. His career highlights also include GM positions with Promus Hotels and The Kimpton Hotel Group.

Solberg holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwood University in Michigan.

Chris San Nicolas

CHRISTINE SAN NICOLAS was director of human resources (HR) at Outrigger Guam Beach Resort since 2016 and last year moved to O‘ahu as senior director – human resources, in Outrigger’s corporate office. Before moving to the HR department, she was a director of finance for Outrigger.

San Nicolas will support the principles of a Talent-Based Organization through the successful management of all areas in HR, including recruiting, onboarding, host relations, training and benefits.

She holds two Associate of Arts degrees: one in fashion merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco and the other in business administration from San Francisco State University and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
