HONOLULU – Celebrating the joys of music and culture, OUTRIGGER Resorts & Hotels hosts an abundance of upcoming events honoring the rich history of local music and culture at its properties across the islands. Each property extends a warm welcome, inviting all to immerse in one-of-a-kind experiences such as hands-on workshops, artisan markets and live performances with breathtaking views in tow. From shopping to music competitions, OUTRIGGER hosts activities for all ages to indulge.

17th Annual Kani Ka Pila Grille Talent Search

After an extensive review of submissions from across the Hawaiian Islands, the Kani Ka Pila Grille Talent Search committee announced four finalists who will play-off for a coveted month-long contract to jam at the home of Hawaiian music, Kani Ka Pila Grille at OUTRIGGER Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. The final four; Rickey Kamai, Kekoa Lopes-Torres, Tevita Lisiate Apina-Pacheco and the band, Maluhia; will perform live in front of a prestigious panel of Hawaiian music industry professionals at the 30th Annual Made in Hawai‘i Festival on Saturday, August 24, from 3-5pm at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.

Henry Kapono Foundation “On the Rise” Emerging Artists Program

Through a newly formed partnership between OUTRIGGER Reef Waikiki Beach Resort and the Henry Kapono Foundation, up-and-coming local musicians have been given the unique opportunity to perform at the iconic Kani Ka Pila Grille. On the first Tuesday of every month, music and food lovers can sit poolside at Kani Ka Pila Grille enjoying the fresh flavors of Hawaiian cuisine whilst listening to the next generation of local performers. “On the Rise” artists performing at KKPG from 5-7pm include Anthony Pfluk (Sept. 3), Nick La’a (Oct. 1), Kosuke (Nov. 5) and Ninamarie Bell (Dec. 3).

Live Lunchtime Music Series at Hula Grill Waikiki

Hula Grill Waikiki hosts an extensive line up of renowned local artists performing live lunchtime music sessions, daily between 12-2pm accompanied by a hula performer every other Sunday. Diners can enjoy locally caught fish and farm fresh vegetables paired with classic cocktails and unbeatable views of Waikīkī Beach. Nightly Entertainment at Duke’s Waikiki

Duke’s Waikiki presents a lively line-up of nightly entertainment. Sip a local brew and savor Waikīkī’s spectacular sunsets as some of Hawaii’s favorite contemporary artists take the beachfront stage with world-famous Diamond Head in view: Henry Kapono, Ellsworth Simeona, Maunalua, Kaala Boys and more.

Maxi Priest at Blue Note Hawaii

Maxi Priest will be performing for two nights, August 22-23, at the iconic Blue Note Hawaii located inside the OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beach Resort. Priest is best known for singing reggae music with R&B influence, rising to popularity in the 90’s with three Grammy nominations under his belt. Tickets at bluenotejazz.com.

@ Waikiki Beach Walk

In the heart of Waikīkī sits a bustling avenue, offering shopping, award-winning restaurants, weekly activities and live performances. Events include:

  • Kū Haʻaheo – a free, live, Hawaiian music concert headlined by the award-winning musical duo, Blaine Kia & Kalei Kahalewai known as KAMANAWA. Accompanying KAMANAWA is Blaine Kia’s family and hula organization or hālau hula, called Hālau Ka Waikahe Lani Mālie. Tuesdays, 4:30-6pm.
  • “Mele Hali‘a,” the monthly showcase featuring the finest in Hawaiian musical performances. Mele Hali‘a means to “Recall Fondly” and one special Sunday each month, award-winning local performers share the traditions of their ancestors. Performances are 5-6pm. Schedule at com.

Ka Noʻeau O Hawaiʻi – The Arts of Hawaiʻi

A weeklong celebration of Hawaiian arts from August 26 to September 1, 2024. On-property workshops by Kapa Curious, featuring hana kapa (bark cloth), waihoʻoluʻu (natural dyes), and hau cordage will run twice daily from 9:30-11:30am and 4:30-6:30pm. 32nd Annual Hula O Nā Keiki 2024

Maui’s premiere children’s hula competition returns to OUTRIGGER Kāʻanapali Beach Resort November 7-9, 2024. Young hula dancers, ages 6 to 17, will represent hula hālau (hula schools) from across Hawaiʻi. Attendees can celebrate Hawaiian culture with workshops, exhibits, and local artisan products. Tentative schedule:

  • November 7 | 4-6pm: Hoʻike with live musical performances
  • November 8 | 4:30pm: Hula Kahiko Competition
  • November 9 | 4:30pm: Hula ʻAuana Competition
  • November 8-9 | 11am–7pm: Artisan Vendors and Mākeke (market)

Hawaiian Stories and Royalty – Under The New Moon Series

OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa hosts the Under The New Moon Series; a free, family-friendly day of education and honoring various āli‘i or chiefs. Live music, cultural performances and workshops led by Kumu Keala Ching and Nā Wai ‘Iwi Ola. All events begin at 5pm and will be located on the Bayview Lawn. Coming up:

Upcoming Slack Key Guitar Festivals

42nd Annual Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival – O‘ahu Style

OUTRIGGER Resorts and Hotels is proudly sponsoring the 42nd Annual Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival at the world famous Waikīkī Aquarium, August 31 from 5-9pm. Featuring 12-15 of Hawaiʻi’s favorite slack key artists alongside shave ice, giveaways and prizes. Kama‘āina admission is just $10 at the door.

27th Annual Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival – Kona Style

OUTRIGGER Resorts & Hotels and the Kī Hō‘alu Foundation will host the 27th Annual Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival – Kona Style on October 13, 2024 from 1- 5pm. Synonymous with local music and culture, OUTRIGGER Resorts & Hotels offers guests a distinctive sense of live slack-key guitar performances by 12 – 15 of Hawaii’s favorite artists. Tickets to the festival are $20 at the door and proceeds will benefit the Kī Hō‘alu Foundation.

32nd Annual Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival – Kaua‘i Style

This annual festival makes its way to the Garden Isle to feature 12-15 of Hawaii’s favorite artists in the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Genre in the beautiful ballroom of the Outrigger Kaua‘i Beach Resort & Spa in Lihue. Attendees will enjoy local fare and refreshing beverages at three bars and restaurants located on the resort property. Local crafters will provide unique gifts from Kaua‘i during the festival during the event. Live music will go on Sunday, November 24 from 1-5pm.
