Hoops in Hawai`i Classic presented by Outrigger Resorts & Hotels Fans Score Collegiate Basketball this Thanksgiving and Christmas

HONOLULU (November 21, 2022) Collegiate basketball games return to Hawai`i for the Holidays with two thrilling men’s and women’s tournaments. First up is the Hoops in Hawai`i Thanksgiving Classic from Nov. 25-26 at Hawai`i Pacific University, followed by the Hoops in Hawai`i Holiday Classic from Dec. 17-19 at the Hawai`i Convention Center – both presented by Outrigger Resorts & Hotels.

The field for the Hoops in Hawai`i Thanksgiving Classic has five highly competitive DII programs and one Independent. Included is the #6 (CSU San Bernardino) and #11 (University of Central Oklahoma) ranked teams in the nation, as well as Lincoln University (CA), coached by former NBA superstar Gary Payton. All eyes will be on this event with regional and national rankings on the line.

Hawai’i Pacific University is the host school for the Thanksgiving tournament, which will be played at its home gym, the “Shark Tank” in Manoa (formerly Saint Francis High School).

“The Hoops in Hawai`i Classics bring the thrills of fast-paced college basketball to O`ahu and are perfect for local families to come enjoy over the holidays,” said HPU Head Coach, Darren Vorderbruegge. “This is the seventh year of Hoops in Hawai`i and the tournament director, Julian Nakanishi, has done an excellent job of sourcing teams from across the nation to come play on O`ahu and we invite basketball fans to come join us and cheer on the home teams.”

To promote and expose Hawai`i youth to different levels of collegiate basketball, everyone 18 years of age and under will be allowed free admission with a school ID.
