OUTRIGGER Finalizes Acquisition of Kauai Beach Resort & Spa

OUTRIGGER Hospitality Group recently announced it has finalized its acquisition of Kauai Beach Resort & Spa, a 350-room beachfront property located on 25 acres on Lihue, Kauai. The luxury hotel chain has rebranded the resort as OUTRIGGER Kauai Beach Resort & Spa, according to the announcement.

OUTRIGGER is not disclosing the cost of the deal, a spokesperson for the company told Pacific Business News in June.

“The acquisition of Kauai Beach Resort & Spa embodies OUTRIGGER’s unwavering commitment to Hawaii, fortifying our roots across its four largest islands and underlining our connection to this special place and its people,” OUTRIGGER Hospitality Group President and CEO Jeff Wagoner told PBN in an email on Aug. 30. “We are now exploring opportunities to elevate the property for both guests and hosts with our signature blend of sustainability and rich cultural experiences, a hallmark of the OUTRIGGER legacy.”

OUTRIGGER’s addition of Kauai Beach Resort & Spa to its portfolio marks its seventh acquisition made in the last two years in Hawaii, Thailand and the Maldives. The transition to the resort’s new name — OUTRIGGER Kauai Beach Resort & Spa — was marked by a Hawaiian blessing led by Kumu Blaine Kamalani Kia, and was followed by a moment of silence in observance of those affected by the Maui wildfires, as noted in the announcement. Indy Dondawala, who was appointed as general manager of Kauai Beach Resort & Spa in 2021, will continue to oversee the property.

“Kauai Beach Resort & Spa holds a special place in OUTRIGGER’s history, having been managed by the company in the 1990s,” Wagoner said in a statement. “With this addition, OUTRIGGER welcomes the property back into its fold, with plans to enhance the resort and provide an exceptional experience for both its hosts and guests.”

In July, the hotel chain finalized its acquisition of Kaanapali Beach Hotel, a 432-room resort located on Maui’s Kaanapali Beach, which it rebranded as “OUTRIGGER Kaanapali Beach Resort. As part of the transaction, OUTRIGGER also took ownership of The Plantation Inn — an 18-room bed and breakfast located in Lahaina town — that has since been “irreparably damaged” by the Maui wildfires, according to Monica Salter, vice president of global communications and social responsibility at OUTRIGGER Hospitality Group.

“While we continue to feel the heartache of the Maui fires, we find strength and healing in embracing new beginnings and lifting the spirits of so many affected,” Wagoner said.

OUTRIGGER Kauai Beach Resort & Spa is ranked No. 4 on PBN’s Kauai Hotels List by number of rooms, including suites.
