SIGATOKA, FIJI – Over twenty eye specialists from North America have just spent a week working at the Sigatoka District Hospital to undertake over 800 consultations and complete 96 eye operations for the local residents of Nadroga.

The eye specialists have donated their time and paid for their own airfares to undertake this commendable work.

Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort was able to provide complimentary accommodation and meals to support the specialists.

General manager of the resort, Peter Hopgood, stated that the work undertaken by the Benevolent Mission International (BMI) eye specialists was amazing.

“They are gifted, generous people who have taken timeout from their busy schedules back in the United States to come and help the people of Fiji. My team at the resort feel truly blessed that we could assist in some small way in facilitating the eye specialists to make the journey to Fiji.”

Leader of the group Julie Broman said that the BMI Fiji eye team is extremely grateful to Peter Hopgood for providing accommodation and meals. “This support enables us to spend our time at the Sigatoka Hospital examining patients for eye diseases, providing surgery, medications and glasses. We feel very fortunate to be associated with Outrigger Resorts who are always working on improving the lives and well-being of those in their community,” said Julie.

BMI will be returning again later this year to continue their volunteer work for the people of Fiji.
