BEL OMBRE, MAURITIUS — Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort is the first resort in Mauritius to have electric bikes available for its guests. The resort has entered a partnership with Electro-bike Discovery, a provider of electro bikes (electrically assisted cycles). The bikes allow guests to more easily discover the beautiful surroundings of the resort, nestled in a nature reserve in the south of Mauritius. Guests can also arrange guided excursions to discover the many attractions of the area.

The electro bike option allows guests to travel greater distances in less time, while sparing effort. An electric bicycle is not a motorbike. It is primarily a bicycle, but it has an electric motor that makes the difference. The engine provides a boost that helps when needed. At full speed the bike can go 25km (15.5 miles) per hour.

“Anyone can use electro bikes – adults, children, elderly cyclists, sedentary persons, people with reduced mobility and those with limited physical ability,” says Amelie Marrier d’Unienville, director of Electro-bike Discovery. “It is the perfect choice for people who do not have the same physical strength as their cycling partner, who have not exercised for a long time, or people having physical limitations or health issues.”

Guests willing to go on an eco-trip in the southwest of the island can also book one of the rides with a qualified guide from Electro-bike Discovery. Such trips go to Le Morne Brabant, Chamarel or Souillac. These rides last half a day or a day and allow guests to enjoy amazing landscapes, take pictures and relax. Guided trips include many insights, historical explanations, anecdotes and stops for Mauritian food and drink with locals – the perfect way to discover the authenticity of the island.

At the Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort, electro bikes are available for 600 MUR (US$16.5/€15) per hour.
