HONOLULU – Premier Beach Resort Company Outrigger Resorts & Hotels sponsors year-round athletic events that support the local community and bring travelers to the Aloha State looking for sun, surf, sand and sports. From collegiate sports and surf festivals to the fourth largest marathon in the U.S. – Outrigger understands the power of sport for a healthy community.
For nearly 30 years – the Hawai`i born hospitality brand has been the title sponsor of The OUTRIGGER Rainbow Classic, which opens up the men’s basketball season this Nov. 11, 13 and 14, with Mississippi Valley State, Eastern Washington and Yale coming to town for the round-robin competition.
This will be the 57th edition of Rainbow Classic, one of the longest-running preseason tournaments in the country. OUTRIGGER has been a presenting sponsor since 1995.
Division II men’s b-ball tips off at Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU) with the 2022 Hoops in Hawai‘i Classics on Nov. 25 and 26 and again on Dec. 17-19 at the Hawai‘i Convention Center. The women are in play Dec. 16-19 at HPU.
The Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic is Dec. 22, 23 and 25, and Outrigger Resorts & Hotels is proud to be the official hospitality sponsor of this tournament supporting all of the teams playing holiday hoops in Hawai‘i and welcoming fans and families with exclusive hotel offers, including discounted rooms, waived resort fees and 50% off parking, HERE.
Complementing the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic is the annual Coaches vs Cancer fundraiser, Dec. 20 at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort’s Kani Ka Pila Grille. For almost 30 years, Coaches vs. Cancer, in collaboration with the National Association of Basketball Coaches, has united coaches and fans nationwide to help the American Cancer Society defeat cancer and provide hope for those battling the disease.
“Supporting University of Hawai‘i Athletics is a slam dunk for Outrigger; we’re committed to giving back in a big way to the communities we serve and proud to support the state’s university and scholar athlete programs,” said Sean Dee, chief commercial officer.
A long-time corporate partner of University of Hawai‘i Athletics (UH) at the highest Diamond Level, Outrigger Resorts & Hotels serves as title sponsor for eight athletic events for eight different sports.

In addition to collegiate sports, Outrigger is an official hospitality partner for athletic events that help raise funds for Hawai`i and boost economic spend within the state. This includes:
Duke’s OceanFest – held each August, this premier ocean festival offers a week of challenging events fronting the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort, including a one-mile ocean swim, SUP and paddle board races, tandem surfing, beach volleyball and soccer as well as surf contests for physically challenged athletes. Duke’s OceanFest honors legendary Duke Kahanamoku, Olympic gold medalist, one of the island’s most accomplished watermen and Ambassador of Aloha and is a fundraiser for Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation.
The Hapalua – Hawai`i’s half marathon, has taken place each April since 2012 and this year promises 10,000 enthusiasts a spectacular scenic 13-mile course to run, jog or walk from Waikīkī to Downtown Honolulu, around Diamond Head and finishing up to fanfare and food at Kapi‘olani Park.
The Honolulu Marathon – in December is the fourth largest in the U.S. and celebrating 50 years this year. The event is expected to attract in excess of 25,000 participants from across the globe.
Sony Open in Hawai‘i – takes place in January and is one of the highlights of the PGA Tour and one of the most international with 144 professionals participating from around the world. One of the largest fundraising events in Hawai‘i, Sony Open in Hawai‘i benefits more than 100 non-profit organizations each year and has raised $23 million for over 350 local non-profits.
