WAIKIKI, HONOLULU, HAWAII – Outrigger Resorts, a longtime supporter of local sporting events, is proud to be a sponsor of this year’s XTERRA Off-Road Triathlon World Championship at Kapalua Resort, Maui. The world’s premier off-road triathlon will offer 800 athletes from 28 countries and 42 U.S. states the chance to compete for a $105,000 purse on Oct. 26, 2014.

“The XTERRA Off-Road Triathlon World Championship is one of the most exhilarating events of the year for both competitors and spectators, and we are thrilled to be a part of the adrenaline-pumping action,” said Bitsy Kelley, vice president of corporate communications for Outrigger Enterprises Group. “As a local company based here in Hawaii, we’re in it for the long run and look forward to sponsoring local sporting events for years to come.”

The XTERRA World Championship race is the last in a series of nearly 100 off-road triathlon races held in 16 countries and more than 30 U.S. states.  Both amateur and professional athletes will vie for the grand prize, traversing Maui Land & Pineapple Company’s 22,000-acre Kapalua oasis.

As a sponsor, Outrigger Resorts will be on-site conducting family-friendly activities, including “Outrigger Resorts – 3 Strikes” game, keiki tattoos and promotional giveaways.

Outrigger Resorts will also sponsor the “Outrigger Resorts Double” award, given to the professional and amateur man and woman with the fastest combined 2014 XTERRA World Championship and Ironman Hawaii Championship time. Professional athletes will be awarded $2,500 with the top amateur man and the top amateur woman winning a six-night stay at the Outrigger Aina Nalu.

XTERRA competitions offer athletes an opportunity to participate in exhilarating off-road races in some of the most stunning and challenging natural environments around the world. Outrigger will also sponsor the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship on Dec. 7, 2014. The event will take runners and adventure walkers of all ages along the rugged trails of Kualoa Ranch on Oahu. No qualifier races necessary; the event is open to all.
