WAIKIKI, HONOLULU, HAWAII – From August 15 to 17, Outrigger Resorts is treating music lovers to a weekend full of musical events, kicking off with the Kani Ka Pila Slack Key Jam at Kani Ka Pila Grille at Outrigger Reef on the Beach. The Friday evening jam will feature some of Hawaii’s most renowned slack key guitarists, and one lucky member of the audience will win a brand new Taylor guitar. The ‘entertainment weekend’ continues the following day with the finals of the Kani Ka Pila Grille Talent Search at the Made in Hawaii Festival, where one up-and-coming artist or group will be put on the path to island fame. The 32nd Annual Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival at Kapiolani Park on Sunday will close the musical weekend, with performances by Hawaii’s slack key guitar masters throughout the day.

Kani Ka Pila Slack Key Jam, August 15

On Friday, August 15, from 6 to 9 p.m., Kani Ka Pila Grille at Outrigger Reef on the Beach will host the Kani Ka Pila Slack Key Jam where guests will be serenaded by the sounds of the slack key guitar while enjoying great local food. The musical evening will feature renowned slack key guitarists including Bobby Moderow, Danny Carvalho, Stephen Inglis, Patrick Landeza, Walter Keale, Chris Lau, Sean Robbins, B. Glen Smith and LT Smooth. For those who want to start their ‘musical weekend’ early, Kani Ka Pila Grille will also feature legendary artists Cyril Pahinui on Wednesday, August 13, and Kawika Kahiapo on Thursday, August 14, both from 6 to 9 p.m.

Plus, one lucky audience member will win a brand new Taylor guitar worth $1,000, courtesy of the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival, Ki-Ho‘alu Foundation, Taylor Guitars and Kani Ka Pila Grille. Who will be the next Kani Ka Pila Grille Talent Search star? Find out when the five finalists — Simply Sedd, Meleuhane, Sean Robbins, Kaiao and Hawaiki – will perform at the Made in Hawaii Festival, Saturday, August 16, before a distinguished panel of judges that will include Cyril Pahinui, Grammy-nominated and Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning slack-key guitar master; Wendell Ching, producer/owner Studio One Recording Services; John Viera, MELE Studios program coordinator; and Luana Maitland, Kani Ka Pila Grille music director.

The big winner will be announced the same day and will win a one-month paid contract to perform at Kani Ka Pila Grille during the month of September, plus studio time for recording, tracking and mixing at the Honolulu Community College Mike Curb MELE Studios. [outrigger.com/music]
