HONOLULU – As part of its commitment to supporting arts and culture in Hawai‘i, OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel is an official sponsor and hospitality partner of Hawai‘i Walls 2023 – the most dynamic, large-scale art festival on O‘ahu.

Formerly known as POW! WOW! Hawai‘i, the 11th annual Hawai‘i festival will take place in the Kalihi and Palama district from May 8-14, 2023. In addition to a vast array of new murals, the festival will feature an exhibition curated by Thinkspace, talks by renowned directors such as the Daniels, Kirsten Lepore and Justin Chon, a partnership with the After Hours event at Bishop Museum, a concert with Black Flag at the Republik and a special closing party at Hawaiian Aroma Caffe, located at the pool deck of OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel.

“OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel is rooted in the craft and local art scene and we are honored to host the artists of Hawai‘i Walls 2023,” said General Manager Edwin Torres. “We’re proud to partner with co-founder Jasper Wong and his network of artists to help uplift the vibrant community in Kalihi and provide a platform of exchange to share stories among locals and guests alike.”

Artists will gather in the Kalihi and Palama neighborhoods to create more than 70 new murals in six main locations, including Palama Settlement, Farrington High School, Bishop Museum, Kalihi Kai Elementary, Kalihi Uka Elementary and Dillingham Plaza. The move to the Kalihi and Palama district aims to uplift the community through public art. Founder Jasper Wong, who has a personal connection to the neighborhood and has taught art classes at Palama Settlement, a community center and cornerstone of the area, experienced the immediate need for support in the community.

“Our partners at OUTRIGGER and Hawaiian Aroma Caffe are incredibly aligned in our mission of supporting emerging artists both locally and globally,” said Jasper Wong, co-founder of World Wide Walls. “We are grateful for their support in welcoming the artist community to this dynamic event that will shine a light on an often under-recognized area.”
