Outrigger’s O Ke Kai series celebrates Navigating the Next Generation | June 18, 9 a.m. – noon at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort

RELEASE NUMBER 61/16

WHAT
Outrigger Resorts invites guests and visitors to celebrate Native Hawaiian voyaging in Navigating the Next Generation at its O Ke Kai Series. The event will feature video footage from the Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage, a “talk story” with Hokulea crewmembers, and a display of traditional canoe building tools and voyaging maps. Event attendees can meet students from Kanehunamoku Voyaging Academy, a hands-on, living classroom for students of all ages, who are preparing to become crewmembers. There will also be an opportunity to view live coral through microscopes while learning about coral reproduction with Dr. Hollie Putnam from the University of Hawaii.

The O Ke Kai series supports the continuing efforts of the Friends of Hokulea and Hawaiiloa to ensure that traditional Hawaiian canoe building and restoration skills are passed on to future generations.
