RELEASE NUMBER 39|23
HONOLULU – Hawai‘i’s first craft hotel, OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel in collaboration with Hawaiian Aroma Caffe is pleased to announce the highly anticipated return of its quarterly TOMA (Terrace of Modern Art) series, this time under the banner of “TOMA for Maui.”
Mark your calendars for Friday, Oct. 13 from 6-10 p.m. as this free indoor/outdoor art exhibition promises to be an unforgettable celebration of creativity and compassion. The event supports the exceptional work of local and international artists while also contributing to the OUTRIGGERCares Maui Host Relief Fund, which serves as a financial lifeline for OUTRIGGER employees directly affected by the devastating wildfires that have swept through Maui.
As guests gather at the award-winning Hawaiian Aroma Caffe and adjacent pool deck, they view bespoke artwork, savor light pūpū, refreshing drinks from event and property partner Maui Brewing Co. alongside live music and raffle prizes that promise to uplift the soul.
Greeting guests in the lobby will be an array of installations and works by Japanese graphic artist TAMO alongside celebrated names in the Hawaiʻi art scene including Kelsie Dayna, Aloha De Mele, Solario Art, Melón James and Lacyann Kaheakū Lyons. Well-suited for OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel, TAMO’s artistry is heavily influenced by beach culture, a harmonious fusion of his travels throughout California, Australia, Japan and Hawai‘i – his display will remain in the hotel lobby for a longer engagement.
“Our Terrace of Modern Art (TOMA) Series serves as a dynamic platform that not only showcases the artistry of local talents but also fosters meaningful conversations about our island culture and its unique charm,” said Jonathan Rotmensch, the visionary owner of Hawaiian Aroma Caffe and founder of TOMA. “We are truly honored to continue our mission of elevating the remarkable work of these talented artists while also raising essential funds for the Maui Relief Fund.”
In this special edition of TOMA, the esteemed artists will unveil bespoke art pieces meticulously curated for this event. The evening will also feature the presence of Kiko Yamada, a 14-time award-winning caricature artist whose captivating creations once graced the iconic Front Street in Lahāina.
Elevating the artistic ambiance further, the night’s live entertainment will include the dynamic DJ Yooey, accompanied by a soul-stirring saxophone performance, with DJ Gem closing out the event.
OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel immerses visitors with a craft experience, created by the “Beachcomber Originals” a network of inspiring local artists and influencers who helped to curate the sights, sounds and tastes of the property. Its location, in the heart of an iconic surf destination, further connects the local art scene with surf culture.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Hawaiian Aroma Caffe and our expansive network of both local and global artists who have united in unwavering support of our cherished Maui ‘ohana,” said Cecilia Hamao, the general manager of OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel. “We hope that this TOMA series not only ignites creativity but also rekindles the joy of collective gatherings, all for an important cause.”
