Immersive activity center promotes healthy lifestyle and provides educational opportunities for kids

HONOLULU, HAWAII – An exciting addition to its $85 million transformation, OUTRIGGER Reef Waikiki Beach Resort has opened its doors to the new Coral Kids Club – an engaging activity center offering a safe, supervised space for keiki (children) to learn about ocean conservation, sustainable practices and healthy living.

Designed for keiki, ages 5-12, the Coral Kids Club offers daily cultural workshops in tandem with hands-on activities rooted around the ‘Āina Guardian workbook developed by local Eat Pono co-author Candes Gentry. The step-by-step guidebook celebrates sustainable practices, the Hawaiian culture and teaches keiki how they can protect our oceans as part of the OUTRIGGER ZONE initiative.

“The ‘Āina Guardian workbook not only empowers young minds to learn about why it is important to be good to our planet, but also invites them to make it their kuleana (responsibility) to care for it,” said Gentry. “It allows participants from near and far to gain a better understanding of our local culture and empowers them to leave our ‘āina healthier than when they arrived. And with the ‘Āina Guardian Pledge and certificate of completion, they learn that even after the activities in the workbook are done, they still have the power to perpetuate good practices.”

Coral Kids Club participants also have the exclusive opportunity to join OUTRIGGER Area Director of Cultural Experience, Luana Maitland in the A‘o Cultural Center for lei making, hula lessons and other traditional Hawaiian crafts.

“It is an absolute joy to have a dedicated space on-property where keiki can come to learn and explore through doing,” said Maitland. “The Coral Kids Club will allow kids to make memories and friends while providing meaningful and intentional programming for visitors and kama‘āina alike.”

A stand-out extension of OUTRIGGER Reef Waikiki Beach Resort’s new Waiola Wellness Wing, the Coral Kids Club is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. offering a moment of relaxation for parents while their children participate in safe, fun and culturally enriched activities as part of their vacation. Families can make half or full day reservations with childcare services that are offered in both English and Japanese for a fee, by emailing outrigger-info@poppins.co.jp or by calling +1 (808) 690-6051.

The newly revitalized property, home to unrivaled views of Diamond Head, provides experiences for the entire family with daily cultural activities open to guests of all ages and tickets to off-property attractions. Guests can redeem complimentary breakfast for children (under the age of 5) with purchase of an adult meal at Monkeypod Kitchen; one free Junior Admission (ages 4-12) per paying adult to the Waikīkī Aquarium and free admission for up to 2 adults and 2 children (ages 4 – 17) to the Bishop Museum (up to a $99.80 value).
