BEL OMBRE, MAURITIUS — Couples can now renew their vows at a spiritual beach ceremony in the delightful southern tip of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean.
The ceremony reflects the multicultural traditions of Mauritius and is conducted by Reiki Master Jeeten Bablee.
The ceremony at the Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort begins at sunset on the fine sand beach and invokes energy and symbolism from Reiki chakra traditions. The ritual creates a symbolic ‘pyramid of light’ in which the couple take their vows.
Reiki symbols are used while incense burns and a ‘singing bowl’ is played. After the vows, the Reiki master performs a Tikka ritual, lights camphor on a Thali and sprinkles the couple with lustral water while wishing the couple positive energy, success, health and joy.
Couples exchange flower chains and bracelets during the ceremony. Petals are sprinkled over everyone present during the occasion.
“The sea breeze, sand and sound of waves lapping the shore provides a natural accompaniment to a deeply personal affirmation of love and commitment,” says Jeeten the master of ceremonies.
“Taking vows on the beach elevates the whole experience of visiting Mauritius to a new level. It ensures that something sacred is preserved for ever,” he says.
Chilled coconut water is served in coconut shells. Four different sweets reflecting the different culture of Mauritius are served. The couple receive a certificate to commemorate the occasion.
There is no charge for the ceremony, which takes place on Fridays at sunset.
Afterwards, the couple have the option of choosing a four-course romantic dinner on the jetty or beach and/or a special breakfast with sparkling wine served in room the next morning.
Any couple can take part in the vow ceremonies, but advanced bookings are required as spaces are limited.
