RELEASE NUMBER 41|18
FIJI ISLANDS – The tradition of the classic High Tea will become a daily ritual at Outrigger’s Castaway Island, Fiji with the introduction of an exclusive tea menu.
Tea plantations were established in Fiji in the late 1800s at Wainunu on Vanua Levu to provide European plantation owners and the Colonial Government with income.
Starting on May 24, Castaway Island, Fiji will preserve the rich High-Tea tradition by serving the highest quality leaf teas that are blends from many estates and guarantee the purest expression of flavour, place and quality.
Served between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. daily at the Waters Edge Restaurant or in the privacy of guests’ own bures, the afternoon High Tea will feature a selection of delicate cakes, pastries and savory offerings.
Homemade raisin scones, mini chocolate brownies, coconut cake, island fruitcake, smoked salmon and cucumber tea sandwiches, parmesan sticks, panacotta, chocolate mousse and crème brule are just some of the High-Tea offerings to be served with double cream, jams, butter and Fiji honey.
A broad range of tea flavors will be available ranging from Berry Peach Crumble Fruit Tea, Otago Summer Fruits and Jade Green Senchja to Ginger Lemon Kiss Fruit Tea, Madagascar Vanilla Roiboos Herbal Infusion and Japanese Lime Green Tea.
The perennial favorite, Earl Grey is also available although this ‘special’ medium-strength Earl Grey contains citrus pieces, lemongrass, cornflowers and jasmine flowers and can be drunk with or without milk.
Presented in pyramid-shaped teabags to allow these full-leaf teas the space to expand and steep perfectly in glass pots, the teas are exclusive to Castaway Island, Fiji. Unlike conventional tea bags, these teas are presented in a shimmering gossamer filter that is biodegradable.
The price of the high tea is FJD$62 (approximately USD$30) for two. Reservations must be made on the day prior to 1 p.m.
General Manager Steven Andrews said that he is delighted to be offering a new addition to the acclaimed dining scene at Castaway Island.
“Our Executive Chef Markus Nufer has put a lot of thought into the concept, presentation and selection of the highest quality teas so I’m sure it will be very well received by our guests,” he said.
The new High Tea service adds to the extensive dining options available at Castaway Island.
The resort’s four dining venues include Sundowner specializing in wood fired pizza and tropical salads; Waters Edge Restaurant for daily buffets and a la carte; Nuku Marau a pool side bar and grill serving fresh, light and casual cuisine and the award-wining, feet-in-the-sand Restaurant 1808 serving an inspirational menu featuring the unmistakable flavours of Fijian, Chinese and Indian cooking techniques.
