POSTPONED: Waikiki Beachcomber’s Spring TOMA Celebrates Wahine Artists

HONOLULU – In honor of International Women’s Month, Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger and Hawaiian Aroma Caffe will highlight local wahine (female) artists at its next TOMA (Terrance of Modern Art series on Saturday, March 14, 2020. Talent for the spring showcase includes: Katie Wadsworth, Shar Tuiasoa, Jess Vide, Margaret Rice, Erin Ibarra, Sarah Caudle and Lauren Hana Chai.

“Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger is a lifestyle hotel with art and soul; our quarterly TOMA series is a truly unique platform for emerging and established artists from the Aloha State to showcase their works of art with visitors and locals alike,” said Ike Cockett, general manager of Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger.

The free exhibit takes place on Saturday, March 14, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is open to the public with live music featuring local Hawaiian DJ Toki, lei from Eco-Mindful-Lei Po‘o, mini Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches from Arena 808 Sports Lounge and Truly hard seltzer. The first 100 through the door get to experience Truly hard seltzer exotic flavors on the house.

As part of the TOMA event, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Women Speaking Out (WSO) foundation, a private non-profit organization that works to educate young women in middle school through college about domestic violence. WSO creates community awareness through events such as character development workshops, anti-violence training sessions and public awareness programs centered on speaking out against dating violence.

“Hawaii is rich in many things, one of those being talented artists who capture the beauty of the island and our Hawaiian culture,” said Jonathan Rotmensch, owner of Hawaiian Aroma Caffe and TOMA presenter. “It’s an honor to see the continued success of our TOMA series at Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger, and we look forward to celebrating our wahine artists and raising money for Women Speaking Out as part of International Women’s Month.”

As part of the upcoming TOMA event, guests will enjoy a variety of unique artwork that promotes creativity and originality. Artists Katie Wadsworth and Shar Tuiasoa focus on using bold and lush colors to create paintings, illustrations, and graphic designs. Other featured artists, including Jess Vide and Margaret Rice, express their creativity and passion through photography and illustration, respectively. Erin Ibarra, who created the “Floors of Flora” at Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger, and Sarah Caudle’s work is inspired by Hawaii’s colorful landscape. In addition, guests will experience cultural artwork from Lauren Hana Chai which creatively tells a story of Korean lifestyle.

TOMA was brought to life by Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger and Hawaiian Aroma Caffe to provide a quarterly platform for local talent to showcase their artwork in an exhibition-style environment and for visitors and local art-lovers alike to find new pieces of work inspired by Hawaiian culture. The TOMA experience highlights a wide array of unique art, ranging from paintings and photography to printmaking, illustrations and more.
