Coaches vs. Cancer Event at Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort

RELEASE NUMBER 90|18

HONOLULU –  For the past 25 years, the Coaches vs. Cancer program, in collaboration with the National Association of Basketball Coaches, has united coaches and fans nationwide to help the American Cancer Society defeat a common enemy – cancer. University of Hawaii men’s basketball coach, Eran Ganot is following in this tradition by leading the charge on a tip off event for the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic that raises funds for this cause. For the second year in a row – the Coaches vs. Cancer event will be hosted at The Reef Bar & Market Grill restaurant, located at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort.

Guests will enjoy food, drinks and talk basketball along with a live broadcast of the ESPN1420 “Hoops Talk” show with Jeff Portnoy. Coach Ganot will be there alongside the head coaches on island for the ESPN tournament. This year’s tournament includes Bucknell, Charlotte, Colorado, Indiana State, Rhode Island, TCU, UNLV and host Hawai’i.

“Cancer is something that has touched all our lives in one way or another and it’s something we all need to fight together,” said Coach Ganot, who is part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Council – a 30-person leadership team of basketball coaches and business leaders throughout the nation.

Through fundraising and education initiatives, the Coaches vs. Cancer program has supported the American Cancer Society in improving and saving lives from cancer in the US and worldwide; since its inception it has raised more than $110 million to fight cancer. The first two events in Hawaii raised about $20,000 and the funds stay in Hawaii to help local organizations connected with the cause.

“Outrigger is honored to be the official hospitality partner of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic and support all of the teams playing holiday hoops in Hawaii, as well as providing hope through this Coaches vs. Cancer event,” said Sean Dee, Outrigger’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

Tickets for the event at The Reef Bar & Market Grill are $125 per person and can be purchased at: www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/cvcfundraiserhi
