RELEASE NUMBER 42/17

Henry Kapono SeriesHONOLULUOutrigger Resorts and Henry Kapono present a unique and exciting “Artist to Artist” series in collaboration with the special GRAMMY Museum®-curated exhibit We are Friends: A Lifetime Party of ‘70s Hawaiian Music – the first of its kind at Blue Note Hawaii – with Henry Kapono hosting Hawaii’s iconic GRAMMY Museum® featured artists.

The monthly series will run one Thursday a month, from June through September, and present Kapono of C&K, Malani Bilyeu of Kalapana, Jerry Santos of Olomana and Keola Beamer of The Beamer Brothers. Each show will begin with a “talk story,” artist to artist, hosted by Kapono, and end with a performance that will turn back the clock to the 1970s, when these artists ruled the airwaves and defined a generation’s music. Many of their songs continue to enjoy airplay today as solid gold classics that will forever be in our hearts.

“We are certainly pleased to play a supporting role in bringing Henry’s incredible talents to music fans around the world with this special series in conjunction with the GRAMMY Museum® exhibit,” said Sean Dee, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Outrigger Enterprises Group. “It’s another example of Outrigger’s ongoing commitment to perpetuate Hawaiian music and culture.”

On February 8th of this year, Henry Kapono, Malani Bilyeu and Gaylord Holomalia were joined by Johnny Valentine, Alx Kawakami, Blayne Asing and 2017 GRAMMY Award winner Kalani Pe‘a for a performance to celebrate the opening of the We Are Friends: A Lifetime Party of ’70s Music exhibit at the GRAMMY Museum® at L.A. LIVE. The Museum partnered with the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts – with support from the Hawaii Tourism Authority and presenting sponsor Outrigger Resorts to produce the exhibit, which was on display there until April 2 and has since returned to Honolulu and is on display at the Hawaii Convention Center.

“It was such a great honor to be featured in the GRAMMY Museum®’s exhibit this year, but I am even more humbled to share the stage with these amazing local artists that I admire so much,” said Henry Kapono.  “Weʻre grateful to work with Outrigger Resorts and Blue Note Hawaii to bring this very special series of shows to all the fans out there who have loved our music through the years. This will, indeed, be a ʻLifetime Partyʻ for everyone who comes to celebrate with us!

Kapono will also be performing at the GRAMMY Museum®’s Clive Davis Theater on June 29– for a special installment of the Museum’s An Evening With Series.

Kapono joins a series that has featured music greats such as Brian Wilson, Ringo Starr and Stevie Nicks.  Hear the history of Henry Kapono and learn about his creative process as he “deconstructs” his career though an intimate, enthralling and interactive evening of interviews, Q&A and performances. The evening will be hosted by Scott Goldman, Executive Director of the GRAMMY Museum®.
