“For 10 years – Kani Ka Pila Grille has been the heartbeat of authentic Hawaiian music in Waikiki,” said Luana Maitland, director of cultural events and activities at Outrigger’s beachfront resorts in Waikiki and music director for Kani Ka Pila Grille. “On our 10th Anniversary, we’ll pay special tribute to Uncle Cyril Pahinui – the iconic slack-key legend who gave Kani Ka Pila Grille its name.”

Venue History
The phrase “kani ka pila” means to “impromptu jam” in the Hawaiian language. Kani Ka Pila Grille was named by slack-key guitar legend, the late Cyril Pahinui – who helped Outrigger to create a place where visitors from Kauai to Korea could feel the joy of jamming with friends and savoring good food in a laid-back resort environment.

Uncle Cyril helped to open Kani Ka Pila Grille on Wednesday, March 13, 2009, with Brother Noland debuing his CD, Hawaiian Man. Since then, the venue has been a stage for some of Hawaii’s most celebrated and iconic artists including the late legends Gabby and Cyril Pahiunui as well as Martin Pahinui, Kimo Kahoano and son Kamuela, Kawika Kahiapo and Manoa DNA.

Providing a regular rotation for artists – each performer has a specific date to play each week. The current calendar spotlights: Walea, Sean Naauau, Weldon Kekauoha, Kapena, Jeff Rasmussen and Robi Kahakalau, Ka Hena and Ho`okena with special guest appearances by Ei Nei, Eric Lee, Hi`ikua and Ke `Olu.

Kani Ka Pila Grille is a testament to Outrigger Hospitality Group’s deep support of perpetuating Hawaiian music and culture. The Hawaii-based company is also a sponsor of Mele Mei, Slack Key Festival and Ke Kani O Ke Kai concerts at the Waikiki Aquarium and much more.

Entertainment at the laid-back poolside restaurant is from 6 to 9 p.m. nightly. To view the monthly music calendar, visit: www.outrigger.com/outrigger-music/kani-ka-pila-grille.
